Tony Raven

Tony Raven is a highly cited researcher, serial entrepreneur and international leader in university research commercialisation, venture investment and innovation ecosystems. He served for ten years as CEO of Cambridge Enterprise, the University of Cambridge’s commercialisation arm, retiring in 2021.
During his tenure he founded Cambridge Innovation Capital, the follow-on investment fund for Cambridge spinouts and start-ups, now managing over $1Bn in assets. He also co-founded TenU, a partnership of leading university technology transfer offices including Cambridge, Columbia, MIT, Oxford and Stanford, focused on developing global best practice in research commercialisation.
Previously, Tony was at the University of Southampton where he co-created IP Group and helped establish the SETsquared partnership, one of the world’s leading university business incubators. Earlier in his career he was a serial entrepreneur, with three start-ups exiting for a combined $1.5Bn, and a researcher at Oxford and Osaka Universities.
He currently chairs Spinouts Denmark’s International Advisory Board and Queen Mary Innovation, serves on the boards of the University of Manchester and the Henry Royce Institute, and sits on the Council of Research England.
