The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)

Sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, APHA is an executive agency that works to safeguard animal and plant health to benefit people, the environment, and the economy. It carries out research in areas such as bacterial, viral, prion, and parasitic diseases as well as in vaccines and food safety, and has many other responsibilities. APHA reduces the risk from new and emerging diseases, and pest threats, and provides science-based evidence and advice to inform policy makers.
