Hexigone Inhibitors Ltd, a UK-based innovator in smart corrosion inhibitors, has secured a £1.2 million funding package to accelerate development and commercial deployment of its sustainable corrosion protection technology across defence, marine and industrial markets.
The funding includes a £500,000 investment from the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund’s (UKI2S) Defence & Security Seed portfolio, supported by the Ministry of Defence alongside £300,000 from angel investors. The investment also unlocked an additional £400,000 Innovate UK grant to support development of Hexigone’s award-winning anticorrosion technology.
Based in West Wales and supported by the Welsh Government, Hexigone is developing advanced corrosion inhibitor technology designed to extend the lifespan of metal assets while reducing reliance on anti-corrosives containing heavy metals or toxic substances.
Hexigone’s proprietary Intelli-ion® technology is designed to make protective coatings work harder for longer by activating only when corrosion begins to occur. The patented tech is used at low dosages vs. traditional inhibitors – delivering cost and carbon savings to coatings manufacturers.
The technology has significant applications across industrial, transport and defence sectors, where corrosion remains a major operational and financial challenge. Protective coatings play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and operational readiness of naval vessels, offshore infrastructure and industrial equipment operating in harsh environments.
The latest funding will support Hexigone’s continued product development, international commercial scale-up and expansion into new markets, while also accelerating work on the company’s circular economy manufacturing capabilities:
● More on defence / naval applications, commercial traction and market deployment
● More on existing partnerships / pilots / customers
● More on job creation / Welsh Government support
